چکیده

Owls are known as silent predators of the night due to quietness of their flight. Capturing prey without any noise, that would be detectable by the owl’s prey is maintained by several features in its body and wing system. Wing bones are well developed than the pelvic limb bones. The pelvic girdle is small and contained a deep renal fossa. The fovea capitis is very much prominent on the head of femur. The frontal bone is the largest bone in the skull. The parietal bones are situated on the posterior part of the skull. The bony orbit is well developed and incomplete antero-ventrally. The inter-orbital septum is very thick. All these features helps owl to capture its prey.

Genetic divergence analysis of the Common Barn Owl Tyto alba (Scopoli, 1769) and the Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus (Pontoppidan, 1763) from southern Chile using COI sequence

In this paper new mitochondrial COI sequences of Common Barn Owl Tyto alba (Scopoli, 1769) and Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus (Pontoppidan, 1763) from southern Chile are reported and compared with sequences from other parts of the World. The intraspecific genetic divergence (mean p-distance) was 4.6 to 5.5% for the Common Barn Owl in comparison with specimens from northern Europe and Australasia...

difethialone, a new second-generation anticoagulant rodenticide to Bam owl, Tyto alba Hartert under captivity

Secondary toxcity of difethialone to Barn owl (Tyto alba) has been investigated. Difethialone was fed to owls for successive periods of 1 (phase 1), 3 (phase 2) and 6 (phase 3) days viarodenticide dosed rats. The owls survived after the treament of rodenticide on phase 1 and phase 2 experiments but they died during phase 3 experiment. The results suggest that the difethialone could cause more s...

Evolutionary conservation of Kv3.1 in the barn owl Tyto alba.

For prey capture in the dark, the barn owl Tyto alba has evolved into an auditory specialist with an exquisite capability of sound localization. Adaptations include asymmetrical ears, enlarged auditory processing centers, the utilization of minute interaural time differences, and phase locking along the entire hearing range up to 10 kHz. Adaptations on the molecular level have not yet been inve...
